PATERSON, N.J. - Former New Jersey Jackals Catcher Frank Nigro has signed a Major League staff contract with the Minnesota Twins as their latest Bullpen Catcher.
Nigro played in 67 games with the New Jersey Jackals in 2024, where he was nominated for all-star and postseason all-star honors and won the prestigious Fran Riordan Award, given to the player who best exemplifies good citizenship within the community. He finished his season with five games for the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League.
Originally from Stony Point, New York, he played high school baseball at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey and continued his career at Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware from 2016-2019. In 2021, He signed a free agent contract with the Twins organization and played in their minor league system until 2023.
“I’m so proud of Frank,” Jackals Manager Bert Gonzalez said. “He came in right away as our leader on and off the field and it showed throughout the year as he earned the Frontier League’s Fran Riordan Award. There truly is no one better for this job in the big leagues.”
“No one works harder than Frank in handling a pitching staff as well as being ready for any game situation,” said Jackals General Manager John Hunt. “He has a top notch baseball IQ and was great to have in the locker room and with our fans. It was an honor having him in the organization.”
The Twins begin their regular season on Thursday, March 27th with a three game road series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Jackals open their 2025 campaign at home on Friday, May 9th against the defending champion, Québec Capitales. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET.
