TROIS-RIVIÈRES ACQUIRES TWO FROM WINNIPEG

The Trois-Rivières Aigles have acquired the services of reliever Austin Henrich and infielder Joe Campagna from the Winnipeg Goldeyes in return for pitcher Tasker Strobel. Strobel’s rights reverted to Trois-Rivières after spending 2021 with the American Association’s Gary SouthShore RailCats.

Henrich, 24, maintained a 2021 earned-run average of 2.59 in his first year with Winnipeg. Before making the jump to professional baseball, the six-foot-four played three seasons with the Charleston Golden Eagles in the NCAA.

In the case of Joe Campagna, he set foot last summer at Quillorama Stadium in a Washington Wild Things uniform. In 184 batting appearances, the 25-year-old averaged 0.239, slammed 11 home runs and produced 33 runs.  A graduate of Slippery Rock University, Campagna was selected Frontier League Player of the Week for the period ending June 28 when he hit .474 with four home runs and nine RBI over five games.

“We went looking for a very talented young pitcher in Austin Henrich. As for Joe Campagna, he is a power hitter and capable of playing multiple positions on defense due to his above average athletic ability. He loved his visit to our city and our stadium last summer, ”said Aigles’ manager Matthew Rusch.

The Aigles will announce in the coming weeks the first players under contract for the 2022 season.
