The Schaumburg Boomers have re-signed relievers Thomas Nicoll and Jake Joyce as well as adding INF Jake Reinhardt and LHP Mitchell Senger.

Thomas Nicoll will be back for his 3rd season with the Boomers. Nicoll appeared in 34 games and innings (37IP). In those 37 innings pitched, Nicoll struck out 55 batters and an ERA of 2.19 while finishing with seven saves.

Nicoll was acquired by the Boomers mid-season in a 2019 trade with the Gateway Grizzlies and returned to be a dominant late-inning reliever for the 2021 Frontier League Champion Boomers. Nicoll put up a 0.865 WHIP with 13.4 K/9 while allowing only 1.9 BB/9.

“We are very excited to have Thomas back with us in 2022. He is a great guy and teammate. He has proven to be one of the better relievers in the league. The outs he gets us late in the ball game are very valuable,” said Manager Jamie Bennett.

Nicoll attended Florida A&M University, located in Tallahassee, FL. He played for two years on the Rattlers baseball team after transferring from Tallahassee Community College. After his 2018 college season, he signed his first professional contract to play for the Normal CornBelters, who were a part of the Frontier League at the time.

Jake Joyce will be back for his fourth season with the Boomers. Joyce appeared in 37 games and innings (38.2IP). In those 38.2 innings pitched, Joyce struck out 55 batters and an ERA of 4.19 out of the bullpen in 2021.

Joyce was a member of the Schaumburg Boomers from 2015 to 2018 and was a member of both the 2017 and 2021 Frontier League Championship teams. Before rejoining the 2021 season, Joyce spent some time in the American Association with the Milwaukee Milkmen, where he appeared in 28 games with an ERA of 2.59 and 36 strikeouts. Joyce spent time in the Atlantic League during the 2019 season with the Somerset Patriots, where he only appeared in 16 games and had an ERA of 4.96 with 14 strikeouts.

“Jake Joyce is the perfect example of being a pro. What he brings to this team on the field and in the clubhouse is very hard to find. I couldn’t be happier than to have Jake back on this club. He is one of those guys that makes everyone around him better” said manager Jamie Bennett

Joyce attended Virginia Tech University, located in Blacksburg, VA. He played five years on the Hokies baseball team, where the Washington Nationals then drafted him in the 9th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft. He spent two years in the single-A affiliate for the Nationals before coming to the Boomers in 2015.

INF Jake Reinhardt will be entering his first year with the Boomers. The native of Galesburg, IL, played just one year at Augustana University before transferring to North Park University. Reinhardt batted .391 with a .448 on-base percentage in 98 games. He was also named a DIII All-American and a Gold Glove Award winner in his college career.

“Jake had an outstanding college career and was on the radar of some MLB clubs. He is a versatile player that brings a little bit of everything to the table. He is an exciting player that we are looking forward to seeing this spring,” said manager Jamie Bennett.

The Boomers have also added to their pitching staff by acquiring LHP Mitchell Senger; this will be his first season with the club. Senger was a part of the Stetson University Hatters baseball team, where he averaged a 5.05 ERA in 130 IP for his college career.

Mitchell has proven himself at a high level of college baseball and had some time in pro ball. His upside is extremely high, and we think he could be a major contributor to our pitching staff,” said Manager Jamie Bennett.

In 2019, Senger was drafted in the 26th round by the New York Mets. He saw some time with the Rookie Ball affiliate Kingsport Mets in the Appalachian League, where he averaged 12.46 ERA in 8.2 IP.

The Boomers return home to Wintrust Field in the spring looking to defend their 2021 Frontier League Championship.
