The Washington Wild Things shut out Équipe Québec 4-0 in game five of the FLDS to advance to the Frontier League Championship Series, where they will play the Schaumburg Boomers. Washington’s Rob Whalen dominated on the mound, tossing eight scoreless innings and striking out eleven while surrendering just five hits in the win. Each of the Wild Things’ four runs came in the fourth inning. Bralin Jackson opened the scoring with a two-run single. That was followed by an RBI single by Grant Heyman and an error by third baseman Jesse Hodges that allowed a run to score and Hector Roa to reach first safely. From there, Whalen helped Washington hold the lead, and BJ Sabol pitched a scoreless ninth to help close it out.
Game one of the Frontier League Championship Series is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT in Schaumburg. Game two is set for the same time the following night, with the last three games to be played in Washington (if necessary) starting Friday night.
