New Jersey Jackals outfielder Dalton Combs and Joliet Slammers right-hander Trevor Charpie have won this week’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. These awards are chosen by Pointstreak, who is the official statistical provider of the Frontier League.
Combs takes home his first Player of the Week award and New Jersey’s first weekly award this season. Combs led the league this week with fifteen hits, including two doubles and three home runs. He recorded thirteen RBIs and hit .536 over seven games this week. In the September 8 game vs Washington, he registered six RBIs and two home runs in the 21-8 win.
The 26-year-old joined the Frontier League in 2021 after spending time with the San Francisco Giants organization. Combs was drafted by the Giants in the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft and spent three seasons with the organization. In 2020, he played with the Steel City Slammin’ Sammies. With New Jersey this season, he batted .295, with 104 hits and 47 RBIs in 95 games.
This is also Charpie’s first Pitcher of the Week award and Joliet’s first weekly honor of the year. In four appearances this week against Florence, Evansville, and Windy City, he allowed just one hit in 4.1 innings. He surrendered just one walk and recorded eight strikeouts while recording three saves for the Slammers.
Charpie also just spent his first season in the Frontier League. The 27-year-old spent the 2020 season with Joliet in the City of Champions Cup. From 2017-2019 he pitched in the organization of the Tampa Bay Rays. Before that, he played collegiately at the University of Nevada and the University of Tennessee. He ends his season ranked fifth in the league with 16 saves and a 3.00 ERA. He recorded 62 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched this season.
