The Trois-Rivières Aigles have acquired infielder Chris Clare (Experience-2) and pitcher Justin Ferrell (Experience-2), both previously drafted by Major League Baseball teams.
Chris Clare, from Fort Mill, South Carolina, spent time at the AA and AAA levels for the Baltimore Orioles in 2019. That season he recorded 30 hits, including six doubles, and drove in 11 runs while scoring 20 over 155 plate appearances. A 21st round draft pick by Baltimore out of High Point University in 2016, Clare was named First Team All-Big South Conference in college and was a mid-season All-Star for the South Atlantic League’s Delmarva Shorebirds in 2017.
“Chris brings the playing experience at the AA and AAA levels, with the ability to play multiple infield positions. A right-handed hitter is always good in a lineup and fans can see him in action almost every night,” stated Matthew Rusch, manager of the team.
Justin Ferrell, meanwhile, is from Broken Arrow in Oklahoma. He came to Mauricie after having worked for the Houston Astros organization for 6 years, including five games at Triple-A Round Rock in 2019. He was also named “Reliever of the Year” in 2018, with an earned run average of 2.92 over 34 appearances between Buies Creek and Corpus Christi.
Drafted in 2014 by the Astros in the 36th round out of Connors State Junior College, Ferrell has posted a career 3.88 ERA to go with a 27-22 record and 11 saves.
“Justin is a great addition for the Aigles. He will demonstrate great leadership to our pitching staff. His skills and experience will make him a key element of our success in 2021,” added Rusch.
