Rockland County, NY (June 23, 2020) – With college baseball players facing a summer without playing the game, the New York Boulders are filling the void with the announcement that the team will be hosting a wood bat league at Palisade Credit Union Park in Pomona.
With the Cape Cod League, New England Collegiate Baseball League and the local Westchester-Rockland Wood Bat Baseball League all shut down for the summer, the Boulders are organizing a four to eight team league of collegians to play at the Park.
Players who graduated high school this June and are planning on playing college baseball are also eligible to participate.
Pitchers will pay between $750, while position players will pay $1250 for the season.
The plan is to have rosters of 20 players that will play a six-week schedule of approximately 25 games. Play will start on July 6.
No fans will attend games, but professional scouts will be allowed inside the Park to view the action. Games will also be streamed live on YouTube.
Games will run for seven innings or two hours, allowing for social distancing between teams as they arrive and leave the Park.
The Boulders are planning on using many safety measures to ensure the safety of all involved with the games – including the taking of players’ temperatures and social distancing on benches and in the stands.
For out-of-area players, the Boulders have arranged for special rates at the Super 8 Motel in nearby Mahwah, NJ.
Former umpires from the Can-Am League, as well as the Frontier League will handle the games. Players can register by sliding to the Boulders website at www.NYBoulders.com and clicking on the summer collegiate baseball icon or by going directly to www.NYBoulderssummerleague.com. There is a $100 deposit due at registration which will only be refunded if the league does not play.
