Trois-Rivières Renew Stanton, Gladu, among moves

The Trois-Rivières Eagles have renewed the contract of a first player for the 2020 season. The manager, TJ Stanton, agreed with the local product and outfielder, Raphaël Gladu. The 24-year-old will return for a second season with the Birds. When he started in the independent network, he maintained a batting average of 0.302 and slammed 21 doubles. He also dominated the team’s RBI column with 64 in just 69 games.   “I am very happy to start building a winning team with a talented and character player like Raphaël. He is also a very involved person in the community, which is very important to the organization, “said Stanton.   Gladu is a 16th round pick from the New York Mets at the 2017 draft. In 486 batting appearances in affiliate baseball, mostly at level A, he has maintained a batting average of 0.251.

The Trois-Rivières Eagles have confirmed the return of first baseman Juan Kelly for a second season. It will be the first time in history that the Birds will bet on a certain stability on the first cushion. Kelly, 25, maintained the Eagles’ best batting average last summer with 0.321. In 221 batting appearances, he slammed 13 doubles and 10 homers in addition to maintaining an interesting ratio of walks and strikeouts, 34 against 37 respectively “Juan is possibly the most exciting player in this league and I expect him to be among the finalists for the title of player of the year. You will understand that he will be a key member of our team, “said the manager of the Eagles, TJ Stanton. The 2019 season was Kelly’s first in the independent network after seven years in the Toronto Jays’s organization between rookie and AA.

The Trois-Rivières Eagles hired the Dominican Yeison Santos. The 19-year-old reliever has played the past two seasons at the rookie level in the Pittsburgh Pirates network. In 87 innings and a third in affiliate baseball, he maintained a 2.58 earned average. There is a ratio of a little less than a strikeout per pitch, but most of all very few walks and granted circuits.   “Santos was recently released. He’s a player with huge potential. It’s also great to be able to bet on a rookie player with affiliate baseball experience. His agent, whom I know very well, has confirmed to me that the young man is very excited about playing with the Eagles this summer, “said manager TJ Stanton.   It will be Santos’s first time with a Canadian background.

The Trois-Rivières Eagles announce the departure of Alexandre Béland from the position of head coach at the Junior Elite level. This decision was made by Alexandre for professional reasons. Last summer, in his only season at the helm of the Junior Eagles, Béland maintained a record of 19 wins against 25 losses. In the playoffs, his squad lost in the first round in five games against Charlesbourg.   The Eagles organization thanks Alexandre for his involvement as a player and coach in recent years.
