The Slammers got on the board first in tonight’s game thanks to an RBI triple from Peyton Isaacson. Riley Krane, who led off the inning with a single, was the one who crossed the plate to give the Slammers a 1-0 lead.

After scoring their first run in the 2nd inning, the Slammers added another one in the bottom half of the 3rd inning. Harrison Bragg hit a 2-out single to bring home Clayton Harp, making a 2-0 game.

It was a hit by pitch that brought home the Slammers 3rd run of the game. They were able to load the bases with 2 outs thanks to a single, walk, and an error. Jacob Crum was the one who took one for the team and gave the Slammers a 3-0 lead after 6 innings.

Joliet took advantage of some poor defense from the Wild Things in the bottom of the 7th inning as they committed 2 errors, leading to 2 Slammers runs. Harrison Bragg launched a ball deep to center that was caught, but Clayton Harp was able to tag from 2nd and score on the play. Oliver Nunez also scored in the inning after a ball hit by Riley Krane was dropped, giving the Slammers a 5-0 lead.

Washington would make some noise in the top half of the 8th inning. They were able to push across 4 runs, one of which was on an obstruction call on Daren Osby. The tying run was on first base with 2-outs, but Ryan Koziol was able to come in and close the door on the rally. Koziol would also get credited with a save in tonight’s game.

Daren Osby was on cruise control through the first 7 innings for the Slammers. He struck out 7 while only giving up 2 hits. The 8th inning is where things got a little bumpy for Osby as he was responsible for all 4 runs the Wild Things scored. Osby finished his day with 7.2 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, and 11 K. He would get the win in tonight’s game.

For the Wild Things, Michael Austin was really let down by his defense. Austin allowed 5 runs, but only 2 of them were earned. Austin’s final line: 7 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 1 K. He would get the loss.

With the win, the Slammers take game one of this series and improve their record to 34-45. Washington falls to 33-48 with the loss. Game two will be Wednesday, August 14th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
